Justin Peters hails from the picturesque 108-square-mile island of Antigua, where his journey as a creative photographer, designer, and writer began. He pursued a diploma in Graphic Design in Canada, where he further developed his technical skills while working in various corporate environments.

His journey as a photographer gained momentum after acquiring a Canon EOS 10D DSLR from a seasoned professional, along with the recommended 50mm f/1.8 “Nifty Fifty” lens. Upon returning to Antigua, he began photographing flowers, insects, and the island’s colonial-era sugar mill towers—subjects that had long captured his interest.

In 2015, Peters participated in the Governor General of Antigua and Barbuda’s inaugural Photography Exhibition, where he sold one of his photographs, The Wet Hibiscus, to the esteemed Lady Williams, who had connected with the piece even before the exhibition officially opened. Over time, Peters became a recognized photographer on the island and served as the managing editor of a local newspaper, a position that allowed him to further explore and develop his passion for writing.

His growing interest in Antigua’s historic sugar mills eventually reclaimed his attention and marked the beginning of his journey toward writing Sugar Mills of Antigua and Barbuda. This reconnection with the island’s industrial heritage awakened the historian within him. He began memorizing the locations of more than 100 colonial-era sugar mill towers, documenting each site photographically, and taking steps toward producing a photography exhibition dedicated to the mills. These efforts ultimately led to the development of the first book in the Sugar Mills of Antigua and Barbuda coffee-table book series.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Peters began working with Frontline Books as a layout artist and graphic designer, specializing in revitalizing older titles through contemporary design and, in some cases, restoring them to their original glory.
